Assignments
Assignments for this class will include homework, quizzes, tests, and projects. The students will also work online during their IXL lab day. The students will be expected to complete a certain amount of problems for their one day in the lab each week.
IXL Is a program designed to give students extra practice aligned with common core skills they will learn in class. This will be used throughout the year as well as a tool they may use at home for reinforcement for generated learning targets.
Note taking will be up to the students themselves. They need to have their notebooks with them every class unless told otherwise. Notes will be utilized during class and will be used for study material for tests and quizzes.
Grading Policy
Student grade will reflect mastery of 8th grade Enrichment Math content. Mastery will be shown through weekly quizzes and assessments. Students will be required to retest on any quiz or assessment that receives a score of below 60%. Students may retest once after original on any quiz or assessment that receives a score below 90%. However, if student needs or wants to retest, they will be required to complete an additional assignment before being granted permission. This assignment is to reassure a concept has been practiced and mastered prior to the next assessment. Additional assignment may include another homework assignment, an Edgenuity lesson or an IXL level. Once student completes the additional assignment, they will be allowed to retest. Retest must take place within two weeks of the original quiz or assessment. Students will not be given the opportunity to retest during class, but rather schedule time either before or after school. This must be scheduled. If for some reason this is not possible at any point or time, a discussion will be made for a retake. ANY ATHLETIC EVENT IS NOT A VALID REASON TO RESCHEDULE.
Students will also be tracking their own progress and mastery on 8th grade Enrichment Math standards. They will complete data folders that will stay in the classroom. Data folders will be sent home for parent review once a month, so that you may see their progress as well. Be sure to also check Infinite Campus to track your child’s progress. You and your child will both have access to grades on Infinite Campus through the computer as well as through an available app for your mobile devices
